Quote for the Day

The following is from the Portuguese novelist Jose Saramago:

“Many of the best-known gods chose mud as the material for their creations, but it is hard to know now if that preference represents a point in mud’s favor or a point against.”

  1. It’s a difficult question but we will manage to MUDdle through it.

    Happy Presidents’ Day.

    1. Hi JP,

Islam’s answer to this question is in favour of mud. In the Qur’an 95:4-6 (Pickthall’s translation) we find:

Surely We created man of the best stature
Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low,
Save those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.

So the mud is pure; the problem is that we humans all to often debase ourselves by refusing to believe in God, or claim belief but refuse to back it up by doing what is right.

If I were mud I imagine I would take offense. Although I imagine the preference of creating with mud may have more to do with the fact that the stories predate masonry. But I’m just guessing.
    Thank you
